Photo Marketing vs Video Marketing... Which is Better?

I read an article on Facebook last year about combining video and photo ads. Here's the article: http://insights.fb.com/2015/02/09/creative-combinations-work/ So over the past year I decided to test all of this out on my own ecom website. I tested video ads, photo ads, and a combination of the two creatives.
I made more sales directly from the video ads than the photo ads and combination ads. I received 10% more immediate orders from the video ads alone than the photo/video ad combination, and almost 40% more than just photo ads alone.
Interestingly enough, I've found that while the video ads got more orders and inquiries, my use of photo ads alone DID send more visitors to my site than the combined ads and the video ads, which helped my subscribe list grow immensely, and with a solid email marketing strategy, my conversions were TRIPLE the conversion rate I had with video marketing alone. Yes the email was an extra step but the huge increase in conversions is worth it.
The combination ads allowed me to see increases in site visits and subscribes, and even though these ads didn't achieve the results the photo ads achieved, I did much better than the video ads alone in this area. The combo ads also improved my instant conversion rate... but I didn't get as many conversions as I did with the video ad medium.
This year-long trial was helpful. Now I'm running ad campaigns to get visits, signups and subscribers using photos only, and I'm running my sales/specials ads using videos only. I save money and time by doing things this way, and my sales are doing better than ever. Full disclosure: I add the video to most of my sales emails. So I guess you can say video wins, but honestly, I have done sales emails without video and they've done just as well.
Please read the article on facebook also... the results I had were off from their projections but not by much. And if you're on the fence with which method to use, this article really offers some great insight!
